Disability Parking Permits

Enabling easier access to the community you love

Age Concern Horowhenua is now providing a simple processing option for Disability Parking Permits to the Horowhenua Community to enable more people to apply, and get approved for this great resource. We want to enable older people to be socially connected to our community by making access to the community easier!

What is a Disability Parking Permit?

If you have mobility issues, a mobility parking permit will allow you to park in specially designated parking spaces around the community and allow for closer parking to your destination.

There are different types of permits you can apply for depending on your situation;

  • Short Term Permit – A three, six or nine month permit may be available for those suffering with injury and need short term support for parking.
  • Long Term Permit – Are approved from 1 year to up to 5 years and are the most common permit to be applied for long-standing medical conditions, mobility issues and disabilities.
  • Visitor Permit – If you have a friend or family member visiting New Zealand that will require a parking permit whilst they are here, you can apply for a visitor permit prior to the arrival in New Zealand using their current permit from their home country, or upon arrival to New Zealand and being assessed by a medical practitioner.

Am I Eligible For a Disability Parking Permit?

To be eligible for a disability parking permit you must meet the following criteria;

  • You are unable to walk and always require the use of a wheelchair, or
  • Your ability to walk distances is severely restricted by a medical condition or disability. For example, if you require the use of mobility aids, experience severe pain or breathlessness, or
  • You have a medical condition or disability that requires you to have physical contact or close supervision to safely get around and cannot be left unattended. For example, if you experience disorientation, confusion, or severe anxiety.

Your medical practitioner will need to confirm your eligibility when you first apply, by signing the application form. When renewing a long-term permit this step isn’t required.

The Application Process

You can apply and pay for a Disability Parking Permit online if you are able.

Age Concern Horowhneua understand that these forms can be stressful for our seniors, and that’s why we are happy to support you with this entire process. In this technology ridden world, we know that many of our seniors are not able to complete online banking and transactions and therefore it makes this process of getting a necessary resource to live well, difficult. Our process is simple!

  • Complete a form for either CCS Disability or Somerville from our office.
  • Fill out your portion of the form (we can assist with this if need be).
  • Take the form to your medical practitioner and get them to complete their portion of the form.
  • Bring your completed form back to Age Concern Horowhenua, along with your permit fee, plus $10 for administration and handling.
  • And leave the rest with us! We will scan and email your completed form to the provider and make the online payment on your behalf.

You should receive the outcome of your assessment within 10-15 working days.

We want to keep you connected to the places and people you love...
