What is The Total Mobility Scheme?

The Total Mobility scheme is partly funded by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and partly funded by Regional Councils, to provide people with disabilities or mobility issues with subsidised taxi travel.

The Total Mobility Scheme provides subsidised taxi travel of 50 per cent discount up to $10 across the Horowhenua per trip.

It can be used at the following providers;

• Driving Miss Daisy
• Levin Taxis
• Taxi Direct (has wheelchair hoist)

Am I Eligible For The Total Mobility Scheme?

Before you are accepted onto The Total Mobility Scheme, you need to be assessed for eligibility.

To be eligible for the scheme, you need to be managing a diagnosed disability or have mobility issues which limit your ability to leave your home. If you drive a car, you can still be eligible for the scheme.

Age Concern Horowhenua can provide FREE assessments for The Total Mobility Scheme, which can take place either at our office or in your home if you have mobility issues.

The Assessment Process

The assessment takes no more than 30 minutes and involves answering questions about your mobility needs and your personal circumstances. Although there may be some clinical questions, this assessment is to establish eligibility for funding.

Once you have completed the questions, we will take a photo of you. This photo will be transferred onto your electronic ID card, which will be sent out to you with a letter of acceptance, once approved.

You should receive the outcome of your assessment within 10 working days.
