VOLUNTEER

Volunteering With Age Concern

You may not necessarily have the time... But you do have the heart

Volunteers provide the backbone of our work and are invaluable to us. We invite volunteers of all ages, cultures and walks of life. Every day, our volunteers make a difference by assisting older people living in our community to maintain independence and wellbeing.

Become An Visiting Service Or Companion On Paws Visitor

As a Volunteer Visitor you would enhance the life of an older person by providing regular companionship and support yourself or alongside your furry companion.

A number of older people living independently in the community, are lonely and socially isolated, spending most days alone with very little or no contact.

As a visitor you have the opportunity to spend quality time with a lonely older person on a regular basis, building a mutually beneficial friendship.

Do You Have:

  • An understanding and caring of older people?
  • Warmth and friendliness?
  • Good communication skills?
  • The ability to commit to just an hour a week over the next 12 months?
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness?

All Visiting Service Volunteers are interviewed and police checked - full training is provided.

Help From Home By Becoming A Grocery Shopper

Do you currently do your groceries online?

Do you have a spare hour to help an older person get their groceries online too?

There are many older people in our community who do not have access to online shopping and/or are unable to get their own groceries from the supermarket for a variety of reasons. Without this grocery service, they would not have access to essential food.

This is a great voluntary service that enables you to give back to your community from the comfort of your own home, at a time that is convenient for you.

  • We will match you with 3-4 clients on a preferred day that suits you.
  • You call each older person once a week/fortnight and take their grocery order over the phone.
  • You then log into the older person's secure pre-setup New World shopping account and process their order for them.

Levin New World then pick, pack and deliver as normal!

All Volunteers for our Health Promotion Activities and Workshops are interviewed and police checked - You may be required to undergo First Aid Training.

Become an Approved Provider

Part of our Community Service Support Service is providing reliable, trustworthy contacts to complete various tasks and jobs for our older community, such as;

  • Cleaning
  • Gardening
  • Handyman Jobs (changing lightbulbs, painting, small fixes etc...)

We are always looking for people to add to this list of fantastic providers who are available to assist our older community with these tasks, which can prove quite challenging for them.

This is not necessarily volunteer work, as Age Concern Horowhenua act a as coordinator for this service, and all pricing/payment for services is agreed directly between the client and the provider.

All providers are interviewed and police checked before being being accepted as a provider for this service.
