Community Support

Our team are able to respond to enquiries on a number of subjects, and can offer expert information, advocacy, advice and referral to other organisations. We maintain strong connections with other social service providers to ensure we are aware of issues our seniors are facing and the steps being taken to deal with issues.

Elder Abuse & Neglect Prevention

There are many reasons why elder abuse occurs, and sadly why it is usually kept hidden. We believe all older people should be safe and live without fear of being hurt. We work to improve the quality of life of older people in abusive situations and to prevent abuse by providing information, education programmes, advocacy and support.

Social Connection

Social connection means the social ties that we have with others. It can be a broad term that includes things like getting together with others, having others we can rely on for support, or feeling that we belong and are valued. We offer many services that benefit the social connections we can make with eachother in our daily lives.

Health Promotion

The reason for Health Promotion is to increase or maintain functional capacity, maintaining or improving self-care , and stimulating one's social network . The goal of our Health Promotion Program is to improve and maintain a longer, independent and self-sufficient quality of life, so you can live dignified, flourishing and purposeful lives, to age well and remain well connected to friends, whanau and community.

We received over 2500 referrals and enquires to our services over the past 12 months! This was a 212% increase from the previous year.

Last year (1 July 2022 - 30 June 2023) we received 196 referrals where elder abuse was suspected in the Horowhenua. Out of those referrals, 62% were identified as elder abuse.

We currently have 150 weekly participants to our 6 Steady As You Go Classes, 2 Ronnie Gardiner Method Classes and 2 Silver Sneakers Classes, running across the Horowhenua Region.

Last year our 44 AVS visitors and Ageing Well Program achieved 2488 Social Connections with lonely and isolated older people throughout the Horowhenua Region - 98.2% reported feeling less lonely because of these meaningful interactions.

105 older people are now safer on the roads because they attended one of our Staying Safe, Refresher Courses for Older Drivers in the past year.
