Become A Board Member
September AGM we will have vacancies for Board Members for YOU!
Like all non-profit organisations we are governed / guided by a Board made up of members of the community.
Each member is voted on by the members of Age Concern Horowhenua (become a member) and charged with strategically guiding the operational team in what they do and, to a degree, how they go about doing what they do.
Think of yourself as extending the operational team tasked with helping them plan for the future, stay the course, and make sure we are sustainable in both financial and legal ways.
What's the workload?
Every 3rd Thursday the Board get together for an hour or so from 5pm at the Levin office to discuss the previous month, how it's gone and make any decisions needed. These are supported by a monthly report & financial from the operational team.
Can anyone become a Board Member?
Yes, but you do need to be voted on by the membership of Age Concern Horowhenua.
It is in the Board's remit to add people on when a particular skillset is required, or a vacancy needs filling before an AGM.
How long would I have to be a Board Member?
As long or as short (not in months, please) as you like.
A Board Member has to stand down after 2 years but can be re-nominated if they like.
What would I need to bring?
One or more of the following:
- Experienced in governance
- Strategic viewpoint
- Deep Horowhenua connections
And a sense of curiosity and learning about how we can all support our every growing senior population.
What would I get out of it?
A deep insight into how a very successful and long-standing non-profit organisation operates, as well as influencing support for all seniors within the Horowhenua. And you are guaranteed a good time, it may sound deadly serious however it's a welcoming, funny, and even cheeky Board set-up and there's no end of banter.
HOW do I apply?
Simple as signing the form, getting a seconder for your application (ask Mike, he can do that for you if needed).
FORM: either print this one at home at bring it in: ACH Board Nomination Form 2025.pdf
Or pick one up from the desk at the Levin office (526 Queen Street East, Levin).
Hmmm, I might be keen but I'm not sure - can I get more information?
YES!
Send an email and have a chat with the current Board Chairperson Stewart: stewart.thompson@ageconcernhoro.co.nz
OR,
pop in, pick up the phone, email the Manager, Mike: mike.riversdale@ageconcernhoro.co.nz
